Cybernet’s Cyberxtreme is offering in one of its packages a DSL Modem with built-in Wifi. Here are the rates from Cybernet’ site:
Modem & Installation Charges (Excluding Govt. Taxes):
- ADSL2+ Router (Modem) with USB & Ethernet Ports – Rs.2500/-
- ADSL2+ Wireless Router (WiFi Modem) with USB & 4 Ports Ethernet Switch –Rs.4500/-
- Installation charges – Rs.1000/-
I am helping someone to get this DSL+Wifi set up at his home and it would be interesting to see what is the default configuration of the Wifi. If, for the ease of the end user, the system is configured to allow open access (with DHCP and NAT), and Cybernet is selling a couple of these boxes every day, we will soon have (yumm…) quite a number of wifi open access hotspots at least in the affulent areas of Karachi.

I’ve heard that a company called Maxcom offers a better dsl deal….something like a 256kbps connection with 3GB for 3k bucks….is this true?

Maxcom is focusing on Clifton and Defense area and is working on a ‘pure DSL’ license. Their office is close to Harvest Topworth / National Bank near the Do Talwar end of the Underpass. BTW, this post is not about DSL but about the new expected Wifi hotspot that are expected to spur up unintentionally in the alleys of Defence and Cliftons.

well my friends ive been browsing alot of DSL provider websites lately, including the likes of cybernet, multinet, gerrys net, go4b, maxcom and have to say that MAXCOM is most affordable specially coz they dont have NO CAP on home packages and are charging: 1250/- for 128, and 1800/- for 256kbps. they have a sharring ratio of 1:5.
One of my friends has MAXCOM in Gulshan and the other one in Defence and both say their download speed and technical support rocks. I would probably be getting their connection is a week’s time. If anyone of you know a better DSL/Cable internet provider pls. let me know. Also they have free installation

I know 1 thing their support Sucks big time…they eaten my 2500 Rs. just for stupid sales manager…Single sales branch in my city….
Don’t ever listen to any of their employee as company is not responsible as I talked to head office level.
